Pongal Celebrations
Pongal festival was celebrated in a grand manner on January 13th 2024.The event was
organized by the members of Lions Club of Royal Excellence and Association of Alliance
Clubs International. Speech stressing the importance of Pongal festival was delivered by
the chief guests. Students of classes Pre.KG to XII took part in the event and
dressed up in traditional form.
The event commenced by offering Pongal prepared by the people belonging to Hindu, Muslim
and Christian Religion (Samathuva Pongal) to “Sun” God. Apart from offering Pongal,
fruits & vegetables were also offered which were brought by the students. Followed by
prayer, Silambattam, Bharatanatyam, Oyilattam & Thappattam, were performed by our
students.
The highlight of the event were offering prayers to Goddess Lakshmi in the form of “ Cow
& its Calf”(Gho-Pooja) and Uriyadi, an event in which a pot filled with rice and prizes
were tied to the pulley and hanged in which lady parents took part.
At the end of the event, all the children and parents were given Pongal and Sugarcane.
Apart from this, fruits and vegetables which were contributed by the students were
donated to Anaikkum Karangal (Childrens Home), Madipakkam and Vaazhum Deivangal (Old Age
Home),Nanganallur on the same day.
